Chapter 9 - Pete

Seri rested in his arms, her heartbeat and breathing still quickened, just like his. Pete's senses were still on hyperdrive, overwhelmed by the proximity of this gorgeous woman, her delicious, floral scent and the earthy bear one beneath it, the burn of his skin touching hers. He wrapped his arms around her, shielding her from the coolness of the night but also never wanting to let her go.

Part of it was because he'd just had the best sex of his life. He wanted to scream about his joy and primal urges at the top of his lungs for all to hear, but he also wanted to reserve this moment in his memory as something special between him and Seri. She'd been a virgin before now, but that hadn't stopped her from knowing exactly what to do and how to move to make everything more pleasurable for them both.

He almost got all riled up again just thinking about it, so he tried to push that out of his mind, not wanting to take her again so soon after her first time. Instead, he wanted to hold her close, to make sure she knew he cared about her, even while he imagined them slipping away from Nick again tomorrow night, returning to this spot to make love beneath the night sky, in the woods, their place of shifter power.

But he'd also just never had a connection like this with another woman. Seri felt like a part of him somehow, like a missing piece to a puzzle he hadn't known about. Everything felt right with her right here beside him. It wasn't even about the sex at all, really. If he could have just held her in his arms, breathing her scent in forever, he would have been happy.

Another part of him worried. His electric attraction to Seri had proven to be a distraction to him so far but something he'd been able to contain. How would things be between him and Seri now? In this silence, they could have talked, but Pete's brain was mush after a long day of work and errands, and he just wanted to sleep with her in his arms, but he couldn't even do that. They had to leave here soon, or Nick would get worried. Or even worse, suspicious.

For a while longer, they rested there in each other's arms, but eventually, Seri let out a deep sigh and lifted herself from Pete's chest. He wanted to protest at her leaving already, wanted to drag her back down and start kissing her again, but the sight of her forced him to swallow his complaints.

She was beautiful. Her auburn hair, although messy with leaves, twigs, and moss caught in it, glittered in the moonlight. In fact, the additions made her even more beautiful in Pete's eyes; she was like a goddess of the forest, attuned with the nature around her. Her skin seemed to glow, too, perfect, just like her, without a single flaw.

Seri caught him staring, and she blushed.
